    About nap schedules

    What is a wake window?

A wake window is the time your baby is awake between two sleeps. It starts short, around 45–75 minutes for a newborn, and stretches to 5–6 hours for a toddler on one nap. Windows usually get a little longer as the day goes on, so the stretch before bedtime is the longest.

Should I follow this schedule exactly?

No. It is a sample day based on typical age ranges for your baby’s age. Sleepy cues like yawning, eye rubbing, staring off or fussing are just as useful as the clock. If your baby is clearly tired early, it is fine to start the nap early.

Why is there no timed schedule for newborns?

In the first two months, babies sleep in short, irregular stretches and feed often, day and night. A clock-based plan rarely fits, so follow your baby’s cues and keep wake times short. A rhythm usually starts to appear around 2–3 months.

    When do babies drop naps?

The generator uses 3 naps for ages 4–7 months, 2 for 8–13 months and 1 from 14 months. These are assumptions for a sample day, not milestones every baby must meet. Nap transitions vary and can take time.

My baby was born early. Which age should I use?

Use your baby’s corrected age, the age counted from their due date. Our free corrected age calculator works it out for you.

Can the schedule adapt to my baby?

Yes, with the app. Plumi’s Sleep Forecast starts from these same age ranges, then learns from the naps you log over the last week to suggest your baby’s next nap window and bedtime. Sleep Forecast is part of Plumi Pro; sleep tracking itself is free.
